Partner-Training or Self-Help?
Normally it is easier to work with a partner, because you have some support if you have to face difficult, painful or unpleasant things during the training sessions or things for which you are ashamed (guilt feelings). But it is possible without any problems, to master this situation alone, without any help. Only two things are necessary for this: courage and honesty.
Courage you will need every time where you have to work through a situation where you have made mistakes, have been hurt or humiliated, have experienced a loss, or have hurt or harmed another human being. In the life of each of us there are such situations, there is only one difference: do we dare to deal with them again, or do we feel compelled to avoid them forever?
Here we come to the question of honesty. Only then will you permanently master any things like that, if you are able to face all past or present thoughts, motives and actions in a totally determined and honest way. Mental training or any kind of working through the past is useless without this honesty it would be a waste of time.
If you can produce this ambitious performance without the help of others, you don't necessarily need a partner in order to apply the procedures which are described in this book. But if you feel more certain if somebody accompanies you and gives you moral support, then ask a friend or a family member to read the questions from this book aloud to you and listen to your answers. The best way to show your gratitude for this loving act is to switch the roles afterward, and now work through a chapter of his own life with the person who listened to you.
If you are planning to work with a partner, please make sure that you read and remember the "Recommendations and Hints for Successful Mental Training" in the end of this book. Some of these recommendations apply for the work without a partner too, but if you want to work with a partner, you should be really familiar with them in order to avoid unnecessary difficulties and failures.
