Ethics and Auditing

The present publication is a practical handbook in R. Hubbard's personal Ethics system. It is a necessary and useful tool in connection with auditing. It is a supplement to 'The Road to Clear', our main publication.

Applied to individuals with the individual's best interests at heart it has produced very good results. It is an important supplement to the auditing technology as it resolves a group of cases or case situations where the auditing apparently won't work properly or where results and gains are seen to be lost after a while.

The described tools and techniques can also be applied away from the auditing situation, simply to resolve non-optimum situations, conflicts or problems in life. Ethics is basically a personal thing. You take a good look at your situation and determine what is the right thing to do. It is as a subject senior to morals and is often described as the philosophy of morals.

Ethics is defined as: Reason; using good judgment and considering how to reach optimum survival; 'optimum survival' translates into daily language as 'successful living' in a broad sense. Ethics consist of rationality toward the highest level of survival for the individual, the group, the future race, and mankind, and other parts of existence taken collectively. When you succeed and all life around you succeed as well you are doing something awfully right. The highest ethic level would be long-term survival concepts with minimal destruction.

There is therefore much to be gained from knowing the theory, techniques and tools presented here.

What We Don't Cover
The primary use of the Ethics tools are in connection with auditing. We have however found it necessary also to outline what we don't cover of R. Hubbard's writings on Ethics. In some parts of his writings Ethics get bridged over into law enforcement based on a system of Justice codes.

We do not cover this Justice system. The codes seem flawed and expressing a totalitarian view. We also find, that unless we keep Ethics and Justice as two separate subjects we are prone to generate much confusion. There has to be a clear line between personal counseling and law enforcement.

In the Justice system we are into enforcement of arbitrary laws that never were reviewed or revised. Part of these codes is the so-called SP declare, where dissidents risk to be labeled as 'Suppressive Persons' and ex-communicated for what seems political reasons. A similar practice existed in the former Soviet Union where dissidents were declared 'insane'. Ron Hubbard's Justice system was conceived as a strict disciplinary system in place to run a very tight ship and protect the group and the leadership from 'bad elements and influences'. In practice it has repeatedly been seen to go into utter intolerance and witch hunting, however.

Ethics is Ethics as defined at the beginning of this page and in the dictionary. That is also how it is defined in R. Hubbard's early writings and Axioms. It has to do with long range survival.

Justice is by all accounts a separate subject from Ethics and not a natural part of this publication. To present them as part one and two of one subject, as ventured in some of R. Hubbard's work, has in our opinion created endless confusions and hardships.
To say it bluntly: The Justice Codes are hereby canceled!

Readers familiar with 'The Road to Clear' will find that several chapters are identical with chapters in that publication. Chapters we have included here are however a natural part of 'Ethics and Auditing' as well and were necessary in order to make a full presentation of the subject of personal Ethics.
